Stairs
Staircase rebuilds, carpet-to-wood stair conversions and custom stairnose that matches your new floors. Owner-led and based in Vancouver, WA.
01What's included
Removing stair carpet and installing new wood or wood-look treads and risers.
Stair nosing made to match your hardwood, laminate or LVP for a seamless edge.
New treads and painted or stained risers, fitted step by step.
Stairs planned together with your new flooring so colors and edges line up.
Clean transitions where stairs meet hallways and landings.
Sanding and refinishing existing wood treads when they are sound.
02Signs it's time
General guidance for homeowners. Every home is different, so we look in person.
Carpet on stairs wears fastest at the nose and is hard to keep clean.
Noisy treads can mean loose fasteners or movement worth looking at.
New flooring upstairs and down, with old carpet on the stairs in between.
Chipped, cracked or loose stair edges are a trip hazard.
Risers scuffed by shoes and vacuums that need fresh paint or new material.
Stairs are often the first thing guests see when they come in.
Hard stair surfaces hold less dust and pet hair than carpet.
Updated stairs help the whole entry feel finished.

Yes. The key is a proper stairnose on each step so the edge is solid, safe and matches the floor. We plan the nosing together with the flooring.
Stairnose is the rounded front edge of each step. Off-the-shelf pieces do not always match a given floor, so we use nosing that matches your flooring for a seamless look.
Many carpeted stairs are built with treads that were never meant to be seen. Once the carpet is up we can tell whether treads can be capped, refinished or need replacing, and we will explain the options.
Adding material can change the height of the first and last steps. We account for this when planning so the steps stay even and comfortable, and in line with the residential code.
Yes, and it is usually the best approach. Reviewers mention FED doing new floors, stairs and tile on the same project.
